Cyril Ray Lewis

70s match 4

On a cold and wet morning Coventry dominated their game with Birmingham but again failed to find the back of the net after having the best chances in the game although credit to Birmingham's keeper who pulled off three excellent saves to deny Coventry. Birmingham were restricted to a couple of long range efforts in the first and Coventry came closest to scoring when their best player in the first half Kevin Perrott curled a shot towards the top corner that the keeper pushes round for a corner, Coventry's passing was poor in the first half but improved a lot in the second half. Unfortunately Coventry had to take Kevin Perrott off at half time due to him being on two warnings from the referee and in danger of a blue card.
Cyril Ray Lewis replaced Kevin at half time and had a couple of early chances but just failed to take them, man of the match Phil Maund then forced a tremendous one handed save out of the Birmingham Keeper and was again denied by the keepers outstretched boot, Brian William Sharp then came on and beat the keeper with a shot that rebounded of the inside of the post for the defenders to scramble it away, Birmingham only had one shot in the second half which Jeff Grimes dealt confidently with although they did have a late goal disallowed for fouling Tony Malone in the lead up to the goal. A much better second half but again Coventry failure to score cost them a deserved victory. Many thanks to Bruce Doe and Bryce Taylor for the touchline support.
Team Jeff Grimes, Tony Malone, Phil Hutchings, Colin Yates, Kevin Perrott, Peter Skelsey (capt) Phil Maund, Ray Lewis and Brian Sharp.
