A dominate performance pegged back by Coleshill's super-sub!

Our first fixture for the newly formed Over 65s team

In this fixture, Coventry's recently formed 65s team played a friendly with Coleshill's 2nd team, that ended in a 2-2- draw. A new team, with a new manager in Ray Lewis, started the game well, playing some good football before Pete Skelsey grabbed the opening goal about 10 minutes in. A second goal came a few minutes later when Pete Skelsey took a free kick, passing to Ken Badland, who hit it hard and low into the goal. The first half could have finished with more goals, but for the post denying Lewis Gent, whose shot from an acute angle on the left of goal, hit the post and went across the goal, behind the keeper, only to then run out of play.
Coventry started the second half as they had finished the third and another shot from Pete Skelsey cannoned off the post back into play. Moments later, the play stopped as one of the Coleshill players fell to the the ground clutching his chest. Fortunately, he was OK, but could take no further part in the game. With no substitutes, Coleshill asked if they could use one of ours and up stepped Brian Sharp - perhaps this wasn't a good move as he only went on to score 2 goals against us! His first goal was a scorcher! His second came after he ran down the left wing, but the referee didn't call it, and he rifled it into the net for Coleshill's second.
Coventry changed formation again and pressed for a winner, coming close with two further shots coming back off the post from Ken and Lewis, respectively. Apart from Brian's two goals for Coleshill, they only managed one other shot on goal, which Garry Bench easily saved. On another day we would have scored more goals and would have won easily. Nevertheless, it was a good workout for a new team made up of some established league players from the existing 63s/67s and some new players to the league. Players were: Garry Bench, Phil Hutchings, Tony Malone, Neil Jackson, Lewis Gent, Peter Skelsey, Kevin Perrott, Ken Badland and Brian Sharp. Thanks go to Bruce Doe, Jeff Grimes and Bryce Taylor for supporting the team and choosing Lewis Gent as man of the match.
