Coventry played out a scoreless draw with top of the table MSA in a game dominated by both defences

Ray Lewis6 Nov 2024 - 15:26

The result leaves Coventry undefeated in the league.

In the first half MSA were restricted to just one shot at goal that keeper Jeff Grimes was more than equal to, with Coventry's main threats coming from free kicks as the sides went in level at the break.
The second half was very much the same as MSA who have the two leading goal-scorers in their side tried to find a way through Coventry's defence. Twice they got through, but each time Jeff Grimes pulled off excellent saves. The nearest Coventry came to scoring was when Mike Dore intercepted a throw out from their keeper and from a tight angle forced the keeper into a good save.
A fair result in a game that neither side deserved to lose. Coventry just have to find a way to turn these draws against the top sides into wins. Phil Hutchings won the man of the Match award as he restricted the dangerous Branch to one shot in the whole game. He was backed up well by the whole side who worked hard to restrict MSA and created chances at the other end. Tony Malone kept a tight rein on his player and the midfield of Dave Floy, captain Colin Yates, Kevin Perrott and Mike Dore worked tirelessly in the middle of the park with Phil Maund up front holding the ball up well to bring others into the game.
A big thank you to the unused subs of Richard Le Grande and Stephen Twigg, who are a vital part of the squad, and also to Bruce Doe and Bryce Taylor for the touchline support and choosing man of the Match.
