Coventry & District Walking Football Club and Atherstone Walking Football Club kicked off their inaugural Walking Football Festive Charity Tournament on Friday, 12th December.
Four teams from the local area, with players mostly over 65, competed for the prize of taking home the charity commemorative shield for the first time.
Coventry, Atherstone, Stratford and Wolston all took part, with Stratford the eventual winners and congratulations to them.
However, it was so much more than playing for the honours of winning the trophy. We’re proud to say we raised £560 on the day rising to £600, for this year’s charity Zoe’s Place Coventry - a baby hospice providing care for infants and young children (birth to age five) with complex illnesses or disabilities. Their mission is to give these children the best possible quality of life while supporting their families.
Thanks go to all the teams for taking part and their fantastic effort in making this a special occasion and to all the spectators for coming along and supporting their teams. Thanks also go to Coventry's and Atherstone's Ray Lewis and Richard Parker for running the event and to Coventry's Russ Watkin and Colin Farmer for refereeing the games. And a special thanks to the Alan Higgs Centre for helping us to maximise our fund raising, by donating the pitches.
We hope this special event will become an annual tradition, where in the true spirit of the festive season - a time that means so much for children - all funds raised will go to a local children’s charity.
