We are pleased to announce that we have just signed up Mike Dore who becomes our 100th member of the club. It seems a long time ago now when we started out with about a dozen players when, led by Russ, we left the Sky Blues in the Community in November 2016 to form our own group playing in Bedworth, which has now become Coventry & District Walking Football Club playing at the excellent Alan Higgs Centre. Most of that group are still involved with the club and over the years that have followed we have grown into the club we are today with 100 members, 94 of them playing members! I think I am correct when I say that when we split from SBitC, we charged £3 per session, that cost has not changed in the 7 years that have followed. Unlike others, I might add. We are proud to boast that due to the success in gaining Lottery funding, sessions have been free of charge for the last few months and will continue to do so for the time being.
We have always been a tight knit club with a good attitude and strong morals and that has remained a constant.
We selected a new committee and changed our name almost a year ago now and we have gone from strength to strength since doing so. We regularly attract between 28-30 players per session on Monday’s and Thursday’s (34 today) and the attendance on Friday evenings is now averaging 18-20.
The Club has hosted an England friendly and Regional friendlies and we currently have players who represent England and the Republic of Ireland. Over the last 6 months we are attracting an average of 4 new members per month to the club.
This is truly a success story built by everyone in this club and long may it continue into the future. New members have said how welcome they are made to feel by the group and that’s why they keep coming back.
