On the 26 August 2023, two members of Coventry & District Walking Football club, were given the honour of representing England at St George's Park (the home of English football.) Colin Yates and Paul Feeney were both selected to play in an exhibition match for TLH Kicking Cancer England, against a WFA England 'All Stars' management team. The match took place during the World Nations Cup, with the teams playing alongside others from as far afield as Japan, Australia, the U.S.A, Canada, Nigeria and the Caribbean.
Playing under the famous dome of 'St Georges,'the KC England team were slow to settle and were 1-0 down at half-time. Things changed when the teams took to the field for the second half and it was all 'KC England,' with Colin Yates levelling the score with a strike from distance and Paul Feeney scoring two goals in quick succession. The final result was a deserved 3-1 win for TLH Kicking Cancer England team with all three goals being scored by Coventry & District Walking FC players.
The TLH Kicking Cancer WF squad comprises players who are either, living with, or are survivors of cancer, and the squad runs alongside other FA initiatives, such as Transplant England and WFA England Parkinsons. It is indeed an honour to represent England or any country for that matter and we are extremely proud of Paul and Colin and the fact that they both scored is a bonus. Well done to both of them.
